Knife Safety
Practicing knife safety will enhance your use and enjoyment of your
knife as a valuable tool. Using a knife for purposes other than
which it was intended invariably leads to the possibility of trouble
or injury and may void your warranty. At eBladeStore, we encourage
you to use your knife safely and legally
- you and those around you will be glad you did.
-
CUT AWAY FROM YOUR BODY-NOT TOWARD.
-
IF YOU DROP YOUR KNIFE, LET IT FALL - DON'T ATTEMPT TO CATCH
IT.
-
DON'T RUN WITH A KNIFE.
-
DON'T THROW A KNIFE TO ANYONE - HAND IT TO THEM (HANDLE FIRST).
-
DON'T POINT A KNIFE AT ANYONE.
-
IF BLADE DOESN'T LOCK OPEN, WATCH FOR COLLAPSING (see Locking
Liner, Lockback).
-
KEEP YOUR KNIFE FOLDED/SHEATHED WHEN CARRYING OR NOT USING.
-
DO NOT SHARPEN ON A POWER GRINDER-USE A SHARPENING STONE. (using
a power grinder will make the edge brittle and usually void
any warranty)
-
USE THE RIGHT TOOL FOR THE JOB. DON'T USE KNIVES AS A SCREWDRIVER,
PRY-BAR, CHISEL OR PUNCH. Use for any purpose other than cutting
is considered abuse and will void the manufacturers warranty.
-
USE IN A WELL-LIT AREA SO YOU CAN SEE WHAT YOU ARE DOING.
-
DO NOT USE A KNIFE ON "LIVE" ELECTRICAL ITEMS LIKE
APPLIANCES.
-
KEEP YOUR KNIFE CLEAN, LUBED AND SHARP (SAFER THAN DULL).
- IF YOU GET CUT, SEEK FIRST AID IMMEDIATELY.
Some Other Helpful Tips:
- Sharp objects in general should be secured in such a manner
as to preclude their abuse by the very young.
- The Kitchen is a good place to teach respect for knives.
- Out in the workshop make sure everyone (children/teens/young
adults) are supervised until they can safely handle all tools.
