Automatic Knives Are Made To ServeAutomatic knives (a.k.a. switchblade knife, Italian switchblade knife, button knives, otf knives) open at the push of a button. This is an especially important feature to have if your disability, occupation or profession has the potential of limiting your mobility or freedom to access a knife through traditional means. No soldier wants to put down their weapon to open their knife, and many search and rescue operations depend on acting quickly. The automatic knife serves to save lives in both of these situations as well as many more. Most automatic knives are deployed out from the handle side like traditional folding knives (some tactical OTF Automatic Knife models open directly Out The Front), and the blade is spring open assisted to a fully locked position. As you will see, all our switchblades are of the highest quality and will give you years of faithful service. With top name brands like: - Boker
- Benchmade
- Microtech
- Piranha
- Protech

- Smith and Wesson
Tough Automatic Knives For The FieldYou can find an automatic knife in a variety of blade shapes and made of a wide array of materials. A blackened, non-reflective coated blade (like DLC or Diamond-like carbon coating) is required for military personnel and the no slip handles, typically made of materials such as G10 inserts, machined aluminum, or even pewter are preferred. History of The Switchblade KnifeThe oldest American made production automatic knife is the Korn Patent knife, with a rocking bolster release which began production in the late 1800’s. Some models of the Automatic knife were marketed as jack knives and were readily available for general use. During the 1950s, the tactical switchblade became a press sensation as it invented the image of street gang kids that would use switchblades as a badge of their gang membership. The media affected the public perception of automatic knives in a negative manner. Movies such as “The Wild One”, “Rebel Without a Cause”, and “West Side Story” all featured switchblades as criminal tools. Maybe the media wasn’t receiving letters such as these: "Last week there was a lady and a 5 year old girl in there car after loosing control and hitting a hydro pole the engine compartment was on fire when i got there and they where still inside if i had to stop and try and open a pocket knife i don t know if they would have made it from the crash or me trying to get them out all i know is i just like to say thank you for the first automatic knife you sold me."
