1918 WWI Trench Knife Image

Boker

Overview

In 1915, when the battle lines of WWI changed into a trench war, there was a growing need to supply the infantryman with a functional dagger. Heinrich Bˆker & Company of Solingen, Germany received the government order to develop a compact fighting knife. The 1918 Trench Knife was the result. It quickly became one of the most desired by the troops. Last year, after 90 years, Bˆker reproduced the original knife with a blade of high carbon steel, with 0.75% carbon. They followed with the same blade steel and a black MicartaÆ handle and then with a 500 piece Limited Production with a Damascus blade and Amboyna handle. For 2007, Bˆker has introduced the same knife with a genuine stag handle. The 5-3/4" dagger style blade is C75 high carbon steel at 57-59 Rc. The 1/8" thick blade, pronounced steel guard and forearm handle create a very functional working knife. Each is serial numbered on the back of the blade. (Sorry, no choice of serial number.) Full tang. Measures 10-1/8" tip to butt and weighs 5.7 oz. The official tang stamp and the cowhide leather sheath are both identical to the original. Made in Germany.
